Big Shot Embossing Tutorial – Using Textured Impressions & 3D Embossing Folders by Stampin’ Up!

In this tutorial, you will learn how to use two types of embossing folders with your Big Shot. First, I demonstrate the Swirls & Curls Textured Impressions Embossing Folder by Stampin’ Up! The Big Shot sandwich is the platform, a cutting plate, the embossing folder with cardstock inside, and another cutting plate on top. Roll that through the Big Shot or other die cutting machine to add texture to your card. Next, I demonstrated how to add ink prior to embossing. I used a Brother brayer which is listed in the supplies below. The second type of embossing folder I demonstrated is the High Seas 3D Embossing Folder by Stampin’ Up! I showed the Big Shot sandwich which is the base platform, 4 sheets of cardstock, the 3D embossing folder with card stock inside and a cutting plate on top. Roll the sandwich through the Big Shot. Next, I demonstrated how to ink the embossing folder with a brayer. Then, I showed how you can control the amount of ink you add to the waves by using ink and sponges to color them. A full list of supplies used in this demonstration is listed below.

  1. I enjoyed this video. I looked at that High Seas embossing folder and told myself that I didn’t need it. Now I see that I do! I really like the lightly brayered version of the embossed cardstock. .

  2. Thank you for your great video tutorial! I received my first 3D embossing folder today (Subtle) and was very frustrated when I could not get it through my Big Shot. I had no idea that I would need to purchase another Plate for the Big Shot or use shims! You did a great job of explaining and showing!

  3. Doralyn,

You are very welcome. I now have that special plate but I’m glad I figured it out before that plate arrived because I really wanted to “make waves” and that was the only way to make it work.

  4. Thanks for the tips! I was having a meltdown trying to get my 3D embossing folders to go thru and I have been stamping for 20 years……appreciate the shimming amount.
